Knowledge Resources When someone in your congregation faces health-related changes whether personally, in his or her immediate family or extended family (e.g., aging parents), how does your church respond? What type of support resources (e.g., books, brochures, referrals, support groups, workshops), if any, do you provide? What we find rather percular is that many churches hold seminars and share books and other resources dealing with everything from addictions and finances to marriage and parenting; however, when it comes to aging and health-related challenges, there is often a void. One of the reason why it is important to share information in writing is people have something to refer to to help them understand and address their situation. Knowing that people on average only retain or are able to recall about 10-20 of what they hear, knowledge resources can be especially helpful when dealing with stressful situations. Likewise, workshops or seminars can be great as they enable people to come together to address common concerns, learn, ask questions and share information.
